Obituary of Isabelle Meagher-MacPherson, River Ryan
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Isabelle Meagher-MacPherson on January 8, 2021 at Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford, N.S.
Born February 18, 1934 in River Ryan, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret ‘Peggy’ (MacLellan) MacPherson. She was a member of the former St. Michael’s Parish, River Ryan.
Belle moved to Ontario at a young age and worked in various occupations during her working years. While in Ontario, Belle married Joseph Meagher. They moved back to their beloved Island of Cape Breton after they retired, making a home for themselves back on the hill in River Ryan. They also spent much of their time in the summers at their cottage in Brook Village. They were partners in life for 34 years until Joseph’s death on January 3, 2017.
Belle is survived by her sisters, Christina ‘Tuddy’ MacIntyre, Jane MacKinnon, Mary MacLeod, Rose ‘Bussy’ MacMillan, and Kaye Handrahan; sisters-in-law, Colleen MacPherson and Helen MacDonald.
Besides her parents, Belle was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; sisters, Florence and her husband, John MacLeod, Margie and her husband, ‘Saucy’ Johnny MacDonald; brother, ‘Junior’ Anthony MacPherson as well as brothers-in-law, Boyd MacIntyre, Duncan MacKinnon, ‘Fabby’ Francis MacLeod, and ‘Wiggy’ Walter Handrahan.
Belle may not have had children of her own but was very generous and caring towards her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She will be especially missed by nephew, Mick (Becky) MacKinnon and Mick’s daughters, Corry, Dione, Jamie and Kendra.
We would like to thank the staff of Maple Hill Manor and Seaview Manor for their compassionate care and support.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
