It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Irma Medelko at Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission BC age 92 from complications of COPD. Survived by sons Robin (Sandy) of Surrey BC and Marvin (Janet) of Mississauga ON, granddaughter Sarah (Yasha) Rabbani-Nejad, and great- grandsons Quinn and Marcus. She will be missed by siblings Walter, Marg, Doreen, Liz, Edd (Patti), and Jim. Predeceased by husband Peter, her parents Wilhelm and Emma (nee Schmidt), and siblings Elsie, Martha, Elfreda, Leon, Rudy, and Lee.
Irma was born in a German community in Nadrybie-Nova, Poland and her family immigrated to Elbourne Saskatchewan in 1938, until they packed all their belongings and drove to Mission BC in 1940 where the family continued to grow. She married Peter in 1952, settling in Surrey BC where they raised their family. After Peter’s death in 1999 she was grateful for companionship and assistance from neighbours Darcy and Marilyn before moving to Thornebridge Gardens Retirement Residence in New Westminster in 2013 where she enjoyed many new friends and activities. Irma had a green thumb inherited from her mother who lived to 102, keeping her family fed in the early years with a large vegetable garden and continuing with many flowering plants at their second house. She kept a spotless household despite two boys doing their best to mess it up. She enjoyed visiting and playing cards with friends and time with family – especially Quinn and Marcus. We will always remember her beautiful smile and laughter.
The family would like to thank all those who provided compassionate care recently at Royal Columbian Hospital and Christine Morrison Hospice.
Per Mom’s wishes a cremation has taken place and we will consider holding a Celebration of Life when safe to do so. Please consider a donation in Mom’s name to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.

The obituary notice is so fitting for your Mom… she was indeed an amazing gardener and I always remembered her amazing indoor plants and the big cactus and her aloe vera plants and other large plants that had the shiniest and most perfect healthy leaves. Her Raspberry/Strawberry jam was the best I have ever tasted and I recall the fresh veggies from her meticulous garden. Your Mom was such a hard worker around the home, and so proud of her boys when we used to pop by for tea. Used to love popping across the street from our grandparents as kids to visit your Mom & Dad’s house and your Mom always made everyone feel so welcome and like family. Probably why I always called her Aunty Irma when I was young even though we were not related.:). Mom and Dad always looked forward celebrating your parents and their anniversaries together. The cherished memories we have of the times we spent with your Mom will never fade in our hearts. May you be comforted by the memories and cherished moments you had with your Mom over the years as you grieve her loss. All the best wishes! Cindy
