Obituary of Irma Genevieve Martin
Martin (Daye), Irma Genevieve- With heavy hearts the family of Irma Martin age 90 of Sheet Harbour announce the passing of our beloved mother on March 28, 2021. Mom was the second eldest child of the late Harry and Essie (Josey) Daye. Mom was born June 6, 1930 and grew up in Popes Harbour on the beautiful Eastern Shore. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, godmother, sister, sister in law, aunt, cousin and friend. Growing up in a family of 12 her education was in a one room school. Her passion and centre of her life was her dear husband Joe and her family, always cherishing time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom enjoyed reading, especially the daily Chronicle Herald, colouring, puzzles, lexicon, daily walks, listening to her favourite CD’s. She loved fiddle music and enjoyed attending fiddle masses and concerts. She enjoyed telephone calls from family and friends and loved playing “45’s and enjoyed her many birthday card parties with family. She was our “go to” person for dates and family history. She had a great memory for birthdays and names. She never missed a birthday card/present for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a treasure of anecdotes. Being the daughter of a fisherman she loved the water and being near the water. For her 80th birthday she enjoyed a Caribbean Cruise with her children and their spouses. On her 90th birthday she so enjoyed the “drive by parade” in Sheet Harbour with many family and community friends showing their love. It made her day very special. She enjoyed trips to Ontario, Alberta and B.C. visiting with family; trips to Disney, Newfoundland and many trips around the Maritimes. She loved family gatherings of all occasion and took great pride in her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. She always said that she loved being around young people because they were interesting and made her feel young. She loved to be on the go attending different functions and events. Mom was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour. Her faith in God was profound. She was devoted to our blessed mother praying the rosary daily. She very much enjoyed her pilgrimage to Saint Ann de Beaupre and Capedela Madeline. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph (1996); precious son David (1972); sister Helen McDormand and Teena Wilson; brothers Elmer (infancy), Wallace; nephew Jamie Daye; sister in law Iona; brother in law Albert MacDormand and Wilbert Wilson.
