Iris Elizabeth Wilson – age 87 of Strawberry Plains passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021. Member of Clear Springs Baptist Church in Mascot. Iris was a former teacher in the Knox County School System. She had a tremendous impact on numbers of school children that she taught. Some of her “kids” still kept in contact with her.
Preceded in death by parents, Clay and Dixie (Hipshire) Winstead; husband, Troy Lee Wilson; brothers, Lillard, Robert, Raymond, Fred (Snook) Winstead; sisters, Ethel Welch, Grace Kincaid, Betty Faye (Schrooch) Hipshire; sisters-in-law, Cleo Stalans, Pauline Wilson Buckner.
Survived by nieces, Linda Rutherford, Pat Underwood, Robin Adkins, Amelia Adkins, Linda Stalans, Brenda Cleer, Susan Noe, Angela Bowlin, Ruth Holt, Helen Dalton, Alice Williams, Sharon Winstead, and Robin Frederick; nephews, Elmer Kincaid, Ethan Adkins, Clay Hipshire, Jeff Winstead, Shannon Welch, and Richard Winstead. Special thanks to her caregivers or “Girls” as she called them.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Bridges Funeral Home. There will also be a receiving of friends on Sunday 2:00-3:00 PM at Clear Springs Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM with Pastor Hartsell McCurry and Dr. Alan England officiating and singing by Matt Schular. Interment will follow immediately afterwards at Clear Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers: John Stalans, Wes Stalans, Ethan Adkins, David Noe, James Kincaid, and Tim Kincaid.
