Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital on May 30, 2021 after a brief illness. Irene was born on Bragg’s Island, Bonavista Bay on October 27, 1935. Predeceased by her first husband Aubrey Osmond (1982), second husband Earle Penney (2012) and son Calvin Penney (2001); sisters Jane and Alfreda; brothers, Henry, Edward, and Azariah. Leaving to mourn her passing, brother William (Shirley), son Glen (Ann Marie), daughter Lori (Paul), daughter-in-law, Beverley (Butch); grandchildren Sarah, Daniel and Kate; special nieces Marilyn, Viola, Margaret and Daisy as well as numerous other family members and friends.
Famous for her homemade bread and apple flips, Irene shared her generosity and kindness to many. She dearly loved flowers and spent many hours tenderly taking care of her gardens. Irene was quiet but endlessly supportive of her family, she sacrificed so that others did not do without. Her goodness of spirit was witnessed by all who met her and her laughter, when we were fortunate to share it, was contagious.
Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Please note that visitation is by invitation only.
