Irene Elaine Able 2021

Obituary for
Irene Elaine Able
Irene Elaine Able, the life-long “sweet girl” of her family, died unexpectedly on October 14, 2021, at the age of 74.
Irene is survived by and forever loved by her daughter, Tovey Ann Blake (Bubs); her grandchild, Acacia Jeanette Blake (J.B.); Niece, Wendy Miller; and forever friend, Leroy Blake (Lea). She is predeceased by her beloved mother, Ziphora Brown.
Besides her immediate family, Irene’s last years were spent with dedicated and unwavering lifelong friends from near and far. Tovey and Acacia would like to give special thanks to Lurline, Matthew, Phyllis, Lilith, Odette, and Josephine.
Irene was born in Frankfield, Clarendon on July 27, 1947. With undeniable independence and pride, she funded her own migration to Canada in 1974. On November 19, 1977, she welcomed her beautiful daughter who fought sleep and food to keep Irene on her toes. She went on to be a hairdresser for 20 plus years before becoming a stay-at-home grandma to her vivacious granddaughter, born June 22,1997.
She will be remembered for her devotion to the Lord, her boldness, infectious smile and laugh that touched the hearts of all those who met her; her sass that will carry on for at least another two generations, and her colourful personality reflected in her coloured hair and purple lipstick.
Irene will be deeply missed, and her loss will sit in the hearts and spirit of her family, friends, and all who encountered her.
A viewing will be held on November 3, 2021, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Park Memorial, 9709-111 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB. Per Alberta’s Restriction Exemption Program, be prepared to provide proof of Vaccinations (along with valid ID), or proof of a negative rapid COVID test taken within 72 hours of entry, or an original medical exemption letter.
A Funeral Service will be held on November 4, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum, 14611 Mark Messier Trail, Edmonton, AB T6V 1H4.
On November 7, 2021, a Celebration of Life will be held in Irene’s memory at Caernarvon Community Hall located at 14830-118 St NW, Edmonton, AB from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The family is eternally grateful to Dr. Bunn, and the nurses and doctors of Alberta’s Cross Cancer Institute that championed Irene through cancer and osteoarthritis.
Flowers with condolences (purple was her favourite color!) are welcome at Park Memorial. Petals for Less, Funky Petals, and Fabloomosity, or a florist of your choosing.
