Irene Bernice Grossman
(née Tall)
Peacefully, on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, in her ninety-eighth year. Beloved wife of Herman Grossman for seventy-four years. Devoted mother and mother-in-law of Steven and Dawna Grossman, Carol Grossman and Huw Porteous, Diane Grossman and Maks Wulkan. Adored grandmother of Trevor, Tabatha, and Alexander. Dear sister and sister-in-law of the late Evelyn and the late Sidney Wasserman; and sister-in-law of Naomi and the late Nick Carlucci, the late Shirley and the late Byron Gluck. Cherished aunt of Fran, Rick, Sandy, the late Susan, and the late Lee.
Born in the prairies, Irene was small of stature, but huge of spirit. A true lover of nature’s gifts, she embraced the outdoors as a keen and enthusiastic gardener. Everyone in the neighborhood was enthralled by the beauty her garden provided. As an athlete, her passions included skiing, tennis, swimming, and hiking well into her nineties. She adored jazz and with her husband became a regular at the jazz clubs in Palm Desert where they spent their winters for well over twenty years. Irene had a gift for making friendships and putting people at ease with her warmth and conversation. The smile of a stranger instantly becoming a friend.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Lysy for his compassion and guidance throughout Irene’s last years and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Jewish General Hospital. Special gratitude and appreciation to Joan, Vicki, Liza, and Vita – her wonderful caregivers – and to Mary, whose dedication, compassion, and love for our mother touched us profoundly. A private funeral service to take place. Shiva private. Contributions in Irene’s memory may be made to benefit environmental causes or for animal welfare. If you wish to attend the funeral service or the shiva, please contact the family.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Irene Bernice Grossman 2021..
