Obituary of Hugh I. Buchanan, Glace Bay
We regret to announce the death of Hughie Buchanan, 93, of Glace Bay, formerly of Gardiner Mines, on May 17, 2021 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
He was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (McNeil) Buchanan and was a former member of St. James Parish, Gardiner Mines.
He worked for the Cape Breton Development Corporation and Sunnyside Hospital in Toronto, where he lived for many years. He loved the outdoors, especially yard work and picking blueberries and enjoyed curling when he lived in Toronto.
He is survived by his brother, Willie (Babes) of New Waterford and special nephew, Butch (Micki) of Tanglewood. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.
As well as his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Frances (Gallant), brothers, Michael, Tom, Gordie and Danny, and sisters, Kaye (William) Deveaux, Anna (Dan) McIntyre and Clara (Charles) Yorke.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A private service will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, New Waterford, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines.
