Hugh Ellwood Arscott Wednesday January 6th 2021

ARSCOTT: Hugh Ellwood – Beaverton resident for the past 45 years and formally born and raised in Fenelon Falls. (retired 36-year employee of General Motors) passed away at Barrie on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Beloved husband of Stephanie (Bowen) Arscott of Beaverton. Loved father of Marlon, Angeline (Carter) and Cory (Stephanie). Cherished grandfather of Shaelyn, Benjamin and Evan. Hugh always wanted the best for his family and enjoyed the wonder of his grandchildren. Brother of Gail, Ross, Lorne, Cliff (Linda), Janet (Jack) Collinson and predeceased by Jethro. He was a good friend to many. Hugh had a great love for dogs and enjoyed training, running and racing sled dogs for many years. Which also included designing and building his own sleds and equipment. Hugh was an outdoorsman and enjoyed travel, camping, hunting. After retirement he took up sailing and later archery. Which included making his own arrows and fine-tuning his gear, which led to many competition medals. Hugh shared his passion for archery by teaching his grandchildren about the sport. Hugh’s curiosity and quest for knowledge always led him to deeply explore and thoroughly research any project or venture he decided to pursue. A true craftsman with an eye for detail, he was dedicated to perfection in whatever he did. More than a jack-of-all-trades, Hugh was gifted with a mechanical aptitude that allowed him to design and build solutions to whatever project he was undertaking. Often he would find and repurpose old or discarded items to use in his projects. Enjoyed being playful with children and animals. Hugh also had a soft spot for people in need and was often willing to help those he could. Hugh was a lover of all animals, even those that some would consider pests. Often while travelling, Hugh had the uncanny ability to spot wildlife from unprecedented distances!
