Hugh “Allen”‘s Obituary
GRAVES, Hugh “Allen” ~ age 80, of Port Lorne, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at home. Born in Port Lorne, he was a son of the late Joseph and Hattie (Allen) Graves. Allen was a member of the Port Lorne & District Fire Department, Port Lorne United Baptist Church and a past member of the Annapolis County Ground Search and Rescue. He was community minded and very musical, especially enjoyed playing his banjo and singing at various music festivals and variety shows. Allen enjoyed going to Fiddlefest where he played with the Bridgetown Fiddlers and he also played for Mary’s Islanders. He was very artistic, painting signs for many businesses and creating his own paintings on canvas. Allen was especially proud of his model Bluenose and stand up bass which he crafted out of wood. In early years, Allen was employed as a farm mechanic following the few years he worked at Michelin. He then moved on to working at a couple of local golf courses before retirement. Allen will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Kirk) Parks, West Paradise; son, Stewart Graves, Port Lorne; grandchildren, Addison and Colin Parks; brother, John (Olive) Graves; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Sheron and brother, Walter. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place in Fundy View Cemetery, Port Lorne, at a later date. Donations in Allen’s memory may be made to the Port Lorne & District Fire Department or Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation.
