Howard (Howie) John Smith
July 05, 1936 – February 19, 2021

Age 84, Halifax. Born July 5, 1936, passed away at home February 19, 2021. He was a son of the late Hiram Smith and Nellie (Stone) Smith. Howie spent most of his working life in Halifax employed as a welder. In his younger years he was a member of 1 RCR, Canadian Armed Forces. While serving he indulged a lifelong love of boxing, where he fought Catch Weight as a 150-pounder, sometimes fighting three times a day. His passion however was restoring antique cars. His love was for ’67-’69 RS/SS Camaros was unparalleled. Howie is survived by his wife, Edythe (Laughlin); sons, Ian, Howard, and Darren; daughters, Sarah, Karlie, Elaine, and Krissy; and sister, Elaine Myers. He was predeceased by his son, James “Jimmie”; brothers, Lawrence, Morris, William “Billy”, Harold; and his sister, Phyllis. Howie can be described as a man who was “an individual, a force of nature who was many things to many people, an example of strength, will power and honesty who is finally at peace”. He was so thankful for visits and his friendship with Perry. He will be missed. Cremation has taken place with interment at a later date.
