Hilde Burkel Golab
Hilde was born in Mannheim, Germany in 1925. She worked as a book keeper there. She came to Canada in 1948 when she was 23 and settled in Red Lake, Ontario with her husband where her first child, Fred, was born. She and her husband and son then moved to Windsor, Ontario. Her daughter Doris was born in 1956 . Both of her children and grandchildren obtained their Masters degrees, of which Hilde was very proud.
Hilde worked for 25 years at the General Motors trim plant in Windsor, Ontario. She was an amazing seamstress. She also crocheted and knit, loved to travel and had a garden until she was 90, providing her neighbours, children and many wonderful friends with healthy vegetables.
She greatly loved her grandchildren, David and Susan, and spent many times with them eating pizza at Chucky Cheese and outings to Ontario Place. She would always bring her specially made pierogies, city chicken and cabbage rolls on visits.
Hilde loved attending theater. One of her wishes was to meet Tom Jones and with the help of her friends in Windsor this came to fruition. Another of her wishes was to see the Grand Canyon and Vegas which she arranged in 2007 .
Hilde moved from Windsor to Collingwood in May 2018 to reside at Chartwell Retirement Residence where she could be closer to her son and his family. She loved her new friends, her PSW’s and the kind staff she met along the way.
Her last week was spent in Campbell House Palliative Care. She transitioned peacefully on Sunday April 25, 2021 with her family by her side. She was loved by many and will be missed for her positive energy, her generosity of heart, her gratitude and her delightful sense of humour. One of her favourite sayings was, “Have a little fun!”
Hilde is predeceased by her husbands Zygmunt Kordalewski, and Walter Golab, her one sister Else Burkel, and her daughter Doris Golab. Mourning her loss are her son Fred Kordalewski, grandchildren David and Susan Kordalewski and daughter-in-law Shirley Fish-Kordalewski. Rememberances to Campbell House Palliative Care would be appreciated.
