Obituary of Hilda Winniet Peters
Hilda Winniet Peters, age 51 years, passed away at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray, surrounded by her family, on November 3, 2021, after her long battle with cancer and so many other complications.
Hilda is survived by her three daughters Michela, Arin, and Sasha, her parents Rina and Rocky, her four brothers Ralph, Pedro, Phil, and Prem, and her loving man Jerry Breen.
Hilda was born on June 17, 1970, in Nadi, Fiji, then later moved and raised in Canada by her parents, Rina and Rocky Peters. Hilda loved to play rugby or be on the sidelines cheering the Knights family on, doing anything that involved physical activity, cheering on boat races, being on the road traveling with Jerry, gardening, and so much more. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved having all her loved ones together in one place where everyone could laugh and share memories with her. Hilda loved supporting and rooting for her girls, watching her nephew’s sports games, or taking care of her dogs or her grandpups.
She hardly ever complained. Hilda had a spirit that lit up the room – it’s as if everything came to life when she was around. The reason she’s loved and connected to many people is because she built this community of love and trust around her, always keeping her word and constantly checking up on you. If she couldn’t be there physically, it was facetime calls so that you knew she was thinking of you.
Hilda was a warrior; she embedded this in her daughters and family as well. She fought until her very last breath – until the last second, which proves how resilient she is.
There are no words to fill the gap of Hilda’s loss, and there might not ever be, but there are the memories, the laughs, the ‘Hilda Peters Moments’ (that her daughters fully embrace), and her love that will never be forgotten. The moments when Hilda doesn’t get a joke, but she laughs awkwardly anyways, then when you ask if she got it, she says, “nope.” Those little things are what we will take in our every day. We will continue to laugh, we will continue to cry, but most of all, we will continue her legacy of building a community of love and laughter.
Everyone knows that Hilda loved her naps. This time she’s just taking a really long one. We love you always. Keep watching over us, and visit us in our dreams.
By invite-only, family and friends are invited to attend her Celebration of Life on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 183 Weiss Drive.
In lieu of flowers, we graciously ask for donations in Hilda’s name to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalms 34:17-18
