Herbert Teichrieb was born in Tajikistan January 1, 1954 to Arnold and Lilli Teichrieb. He had an older brother Gerhard and later a younger brother Walter. He emigrated with his parents and brothers to Canada in 1973 and made their home in Winnipeg. A sister, Nely was added to their family once they arrived in Canada.
He became a Christian when he was 19 years old and was baptized into membership at the Central MB Church. He was very active in this youth group as well as a Russian youth group made up of many young people who had also recently arrived in Canada.
In 1978 Herb decided to go to study in Germany and Switzerland. At this time he met his future wife Elisabeth Richert. They were married and together they attended Bibelschule Brake in Germany. Two years later they had their first daughter Simone, and in the following years welcomed two more daughters, Evelyn and Johanna.
In July 1988 the family moved back to Canada. They settled in Winnipeg to be close to his parents. They planned to further study English while in Canada and then move to Brooklyn, New York to participate in missions work. Though the move never took place, Herb was involved in preaching and teaching Sunday School in the years after they came to Canada.
Herb had many jobs over the years including Dyck’s Box Manufacturing, Canadian Tire, Hawthorne Cabinets and others. In 1995 Herb and his family transferred their church membership to the Elmwood MB Church.
Herb was a man with many struggles. Struggles that affected his relationships profoundly. He was a man made by God, in His image and marked by the sin in this world. We are here today to say goodbye to the man that was above all else, loved by an Almighty God.
Herb fell early last week and injured himself. He was transported to hospital and passed away from his injuries on December 10th.
He was predeceased by his mother, Lilli, his father, Arnold and his oldest brother, Gerhard.
