Obituary of Helen Grist
In her 90th year, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Alma, she was the daughter of the late John and Bessie (Anderson) Hatch.
After graduating from New Glasgow High School, she attended business school. Shortly afterward, her heart was captured by a handsome young man named Wilfred. And for almost 68 years they laughed and loved together, building the strongest foundation for their family.
Helen attended St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in New Glasgow until her health declined. She volunteered at Robes and Fishes, Meals on Wheels, church functions, and enjoyed Bible classes. She discovered a talent for leatherwork, and created beautiful purses, wallets, and many custom projects for customers. Even teaching her own father, then in his eighties, to make his own creations.
Together Helen and Wilfred created a wonderful life together: whether it was gliding across the floor at old time dances, celebrating their summer birthdays at the cottage, or just going for a drive. Mom adored Dad and every moment they spent together. Theirs was a relationship of deep love and respect to be envied by all.
Survived by her husband Wilfred, son Kenny Grist (Cindy), Kevin Grist (Charlene), daughter Lauren Ingham (Gordon); adored grandchildren Andrea, Jennifer (Phil), Greg, (Justin), Ashley, Alex (Colby), Christine (Scott); and cherished great grandchildren Braeden, Norah, Addison and Elliot.
There will be no visitations. A private funeral service will take place (by invitation only), however the funeral will be streamed live to the public and may be a watched by clicking on the following link: youtu.be/_K1m288RqhE
