Helena Rempel (nee Harms) age 87 of Steinbach, MB, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Bethesda Place with her daughter in-law Jennifer at her side.
She is survived by her children Sheldon Rempel (Laurie) and Camden Rempel (Jennifer), her grandchildren Raelynne Schulz (Ryan), Jaden Rempel (Jenna), Dannaya Rempel, Callum Rempel, Jameson Rempel and Caleb Rempel and one great grandchild Oliver as well as her brothers Henry Harms and Corny Harms.
She was predeceased by her husband David Rempel, her mother Maria Friesen Harms, her father Peter D. Harms and by 9 brothers and sisters.
Helena (Helen) grew up on a farm near Rosenort, MB. She was the 10th of 12 siblings. She cherished all of her family relationships and kept up with as many of her nieces and nephews as she possibly could. She met David at the Steinbach Bible Institute in the early sixties. They fell in love and were married in 1964 just prior to Helen’s 30th birthday. A few years later, she and David entered the ministry and continued on pastoring in 4 different churches until they retired in 2001. They lived in Winnipeg, Dominion City and Altona. Then they moved to Hepburn, SK and later on to Caronport. After that they lived in the USA for 5 years in Seminole, TX. Their last church was in Carnduff, SK before they returned to Steinbach in retirement where their relationship began.
Helen was resourceful and a woman of many talents. She knew how to run a household on a tight budget. She cooked, baked, canned, gardened, sewed, kept the books, ran her small businesses with direct selling (either Tupperware, books or paintings) and still had time for people. She loved music. She sang, played piano and on occasion blared the stereo at full blast. She painted, made quilts, decorated cakes, played games and also loved to read. She knew how to cry and she certainly knew how to laugh and have fun! Any day where she “quickly” accomplished a long list of tasks was a good day. Her many journals attest to that.
We as a family have many wonderful memories. Our mom was a godly woman who cared for many, prayed much and walked faithfully with Jesus. Her final years were spent in the Bethesda Place care home living with dementia where she is remembered for her singing and harmonizing with those who sang to her. While we grieve the loss of our dear loved one, we rejoice that she is now with the Lord.
