Helena’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness our family announces the passing of Helena Igleniec (nee Maszycka) at the age of 100.
She passed on February 2, 2021 at the Northwood Lodge, Red Lake, Ontario.
Helena is predeceased by her husband, Karol, and her infant son Josef. She is survived by her eldest son Joseph (Helen), daughter Helen (Bill), daughter Nella; her granddaughters Tanja (Gary), Jaclyn (Dave), Caitlin (Seth), Brianna (Iver); her grandsons Brett, David; and her great grandchildren Emerson, Ethan, and Leah.
Helena was born on June 2, 1920 in Zawiercie, Poland. Her early years were spent with her blended family. She worked for a German family on their farm during WW ll. This is where her son Joseph was born. She met Karol in Menden, Germany, where they married. They immigrated to Lesson, Saskatchewan in 1954. In 1955 the family moved to the Red Lake area where Helena and Karol had three more children.
Helena went to work in the laundry at the Red Lake Hospital once her children were in school. She retired from there in 1985.
Her faith was most important to her. She took pride in her family. She loved to dance (Karol and Helena took first prize in the dance competition aboard the ship crossing the Atlantic Ocean), listen to music, keeping abreast of current events and she loved to read. Joseph and Helen became avid readers due to Helena’s influence. She was a creative cook even if she didn’t think she was a good one.
Helena was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
