Born on September 24, 1925 to Wallace Roy Toppin and his wife, the former Myrtle Newans, Helen passed away peacefully at the Maple View Lodge on Monday, September 27, 2021, at the age of 96 years. She attended public schools in Brockville and Brockville Collegiate and Vocational School. Helen worked as Secretary to the Assistant Adjutant Officer’s Training Centre for Purchasing Agent, Canada Foundries and Forging and for the Children’s Aid Society. She enjoyed her family, gardening, reading, pets, helping her husband with his hobbies and volunteering for various organizations. Helen was married on September 17, 1949 to Clayton J. MacDonald. Clayton predeceased her in 2000 along with her companion Bill Massey in 2013. She is survived by her daughters Jan Sigman (Pierre) and Kim MacDonald; by her granddaughter Kristle MacDonald; her niece Carol; her nephew Gordie and by Bill’s daughter Marilyn. Predeceased by her only brother Harold Toppin. She has been a resident at Maple View Lodge since 2009 and her family is truly gratefully for the care and support shown over the years.
A service in honour of Helen’s life will be held at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 2 pm. Covid protocols in effect with registration of guests required by RSVP online or by calling 613-342-2828.
