Helen’s Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden, but peaceful passing of our beloved mom on Sunday, November 21st, 2021, surrounded by her loving family at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in her 83rd year.
She leaves to mourn her 10 children: Dermot (Denise) of St. Thomas, ON, Debbie (Brendan) McIsaac of Kippens, Shirley (Glen) Campbell of Stephenville, Linda (Vaden) Compton of Spruce Grove, AB, Dody (Tony) Perry of Calgary, AB, Patsy (Carey) Sloan of Calgary, AB, Elizabeth (Chris) LaVallee of Stephenville, Millie (Lance) Chinn of Fort McMurray, AB, Billy (Kim) of Port au Port, and Ricky of Fort McMurray, AB; 23 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; brothers: Kevin,Matthew, Henry (Mag), Gerard (Helen), Jackie, Brennan (Chris), Conrad (Hazel), Michael (Phyllis), and Allan (Doreen); and sisters-in-law: Mercedes Burke, Sister Dolorosa, and Betty (Charlie) Synard, Sister Mildred, and Bernice (Allan) Hardy.
Helen was predeceased by: her husband of 56 years, Felix (July 2011); parents Richard and Mary Hynes; and brothers: Vincent, Louis, Mark, Fred, Neil, and infant brother Lawrence.
She was the only daughter of Richard and Mary Hynes; mom was born in Port au Port on April 10, 1938 and had 16 brothers. For many years mom enjoyed playing Bingo, bowling, playing cards (especially with the grandchildren), camping, dancing, knitting slippers for her family, and cooking for everybody. She held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mom and Dad had numerous long-time special friends and many nights were spent at their kitchen table entertaining and playing cards. There was always a delicious meal on the stove for whomever dropped by. They were avid campers and loved to travel the island and always took someone else with them. They also travelled to Fort McMurray many times over the years to visit their children.
Mom had a strong, sincere and quiet kind of love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and this along with her witty sense of humor made her the special mom she was.
We will love you forever Mom. You will never be forgotten.
