Heather Ruth Hill (Taylor)
March 4, 1956 – April 14, 2021
Heather peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord surrounded by her family on April 14, 2021
after a 5 year battle with breast cancer.
She is survived by her loving family including Bob, her husband of 36 years, her sons Andrew (Amy) and
David, and her darling granddaughter Elodie. Heather is survived by her mother Dorothy, her brother
Cecil (Barb), her sisters Elizabeth Lang (Gordon) and Eleanor Kreplin (Martin), and sister-in-law Joy
Gamboa (Sixto) as well as by nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.
Heather was born in Charlottetown, PEI on March 4, 1956 to parents Perley (deceased) and Dorothy
(Macdonald) Taylor. She attended elementary school in Winsloe, junior high at Queen Charlotte
Intermediate, and senior high at Colonel Gray High School. She took a one year Business Course at
Oulton College in Moncton. For several years, she worked in Social Services for the Government of PEI.
Following her move to Toronto in January 1982, she worked in the fundraising department at Sick Kids
Hospital, then at the Women’s College Hospital. After moving to Ottawa in 1990, she started a home
daycare which she continued for 12 years. She then worked as Office Administrator at a church in the
west end of Ottawa.
Heather’s uncle and brother were actively involved with junior hockey in PEI which created a keen
interest in hockey for her, attending many games throughout the years. At one point, she and her older
sister travelled to Detroit when the Junior Islanders were in the playoffs for the Memorial Cup. After
moving to Ottawa, she became an avid fan of the Ottawa Senators. It was always a highlight for her
when she and Andrew would attend Senators games. Although she never curled, she thoroughly
enjoyed watching various curling championships on television.
Heather grew up in a loving Christian family with church being a vital part of their lives and she
developed a strong faith. At Zion Presbyterian Church, she sang in the choir and was involved in “Young
Peoples”. In Toronto she participated in a “College and Careers” group and sang in a women’s trio. After
moving to Ottawa, she became active at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday School and
Vacation Bible School, and singing with the Worship Team.
Heather’s strong faith was an important part of her life. It was at Knox Presbyterian church in Toronto
where she first met Bob. Their friendship grew and on September 1, 1984, they were married. Their
faith was a bond that they shared. Heather loved her two sons deeply, and was always extremely proud
of them. Heather loved and was loved by her family, friends, church family, and neighbours.
Our deepest thanks to all the nurses and doctors at both the Cancer Centre at the Ottawa General
Hospital and at the Irving Greenberg Centre who cared for Heather throughout her cancer journey. A
special thanks to Dr. Mark Clemons and his assistant Fiona who so lovingly cared for her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation or St. Paul’s
Presbyterian Church.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Heather Ruth Hill Taylor Wednesday April 14th 2021..
