Obituary of Hazel M. Twigger
It is with great sadness that the family of Hazel (Crossman) Twigger announce her passing on November 18th at Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Last year she was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Harry Twigger, and we know they are dancing together again.
Hazel had two beautiful daughters, Lynn (Ivan) Broz and Elaine (Harold) McKinnon, of whom she was incredibly proud. She will also be remembered by her five grandchildren, Lindsay (Darren), Patrick (Cynthia), Aaron, Nick (Ashton), and Laura (Stuart). One of her greatest joys in life was visits with her five great-grandchildren Ellie, Kate, Amelia, James, and Harrison, as well as her step great-grandson Maverick. Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her sister Brenda Magee and brother Rod Crossman, as well as many nieces and nephews. A very special thank you to her niece, Gail Ann, who made sure her aunt’s room was adorned with fresh flowers. Hazel was predeceased by her parents, John and Mildred Crossman, and siblings Eleanor, Doris, Clarence, Marina, Joan, and Betty Lou.
Hazel loved her family and looked forward to our Sunday dinners with everyone gathered around the table sharing memories and listening to Grampy’s stories. She will be remembered for her brownies and her immaculate housekeeping that created a new standard to which we all aspire, and lovingly refer to, as “Nana clean”.
The family would like to thank the staff at Shannex Concorde Hall, the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, as well as staff and volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice for the wonderful end-of-life care that Hazel received. As she often told us, “I’ve had a good run.” Each of you helped her exit with dignity and love.
At Hazel’s request there will be no funeral service, but she will be remembered in a private family gathering. Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119). Donations may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Nana, we have still not perfected your brownie recipe but will continue to try so they always remain part of our family gatherings.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Hazel
