The death of Harry John Shaddick, husband of Shirley (Gilks) Shaddick of Miramichi, NB, occurred on March 1st at Losier Hall at the age of 91. Born in Cassilis, NB, he was the son of the late Clifford and Muriel (Bryenton) Shaddick.
As an active member of St. James & St. John United Church, he took pleasure singing in the men’s choir, was a member of the Northumberland Masonic Lodge No. 17 F&AM, the Order of the Eastern Star, as well as being a respected church Elder. After working for an impressive 51 years and many loads of logs, Harry retired as a wood scaler from Nelson Forest Products (Burchill & Sons Ltd.) in 1998 at age 69.
Harry was a man of true dedication – to his family, his faith and his work. This was obvious to everyone who knew him. Besides his wife Shirley of 64 years, he is survived by two daughters – June (Pat Colepaugh) of Douglastown, Melanie MacCallum (Bruce) of South Esk and one son – Blake (Ellen) of South Esk. He also loved his three grandchildren – Andrew MacCallum (Rebecca Fodchuk) of Edmonton, AB, Tracy MacCallum and Jaden Shaddick of South Esk. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren Bailey & Landon MacCallum of Miramichi and Peyton & Olivia MacCallum of South Esk.
Harry is also survived by his sister Muriel Tozer (Glenn) of Miramichi, three brothers Edward (Hazel Gallant), Winston (Linda) of Douglasfield, Glenn (Charlene) of Sunny Corner, two sister in-laws, Bertha Shaddick and Jean Carter, and one brother-in-law Robert (‘Junior’) Underhill of Miramichi. He was also proud of his many nieces and nephews. Harry is predeceased by his parents, in-laws Carl & Irene Gilks, one sister Barbara Underhill, two brothers Billy & infant brother Leslie, sister-in-laws, Marilyn Shaddick and Evelyn Davidson and brother-in-laws Claude Carter and Jim Davidson.
The family would like to thank the staff of Miramichi Hospital 4 East and Losier Hall for their care and compassion over the past two years, as well as his home care provider & dear friend Bilal, to whom we are forever grateful.
There will be no visitation.
The funeral will be held at St. James & St. John United Church on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 3 pm with Rev. Alice Szemok officiating. The use of face masks as well as social distancing guidelines must be followed at the funeral. Burial will take place in the Miramichi cemetery later in the spring.
As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the St. James & St. John United Church restoration fund or a memorial of one’s choice.
