Leonard Lawrence Gurel passed away on January 19, 2021. He was born on May 25, 1928 to Jacob and Ida Gurel in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Edmonton in 1933 where they resided for the rest of their lives. Leonard was predeceased by his parents, sister Dorothy, brother George, and daughter Diane. He is survived by his wife Geraldine (Geri), sons David and Darren (Sherri), grandchildren Gina (Jeff) Miles and Dallas (Gabby), and great-grandchildren Evan Miles, Hannah Miles, and Kade Gurel.
Leonard Gurel worked for the provincial government from 1948 to 1983 in the Department of Municipal Affairs. Len worked his way from Municipal Inspector through to Official Administrator of the New Town of Grand Cache, where you can find Leonard Street, which is named in his honor.
Through his retirement, he and his wife Geri traveled throughout the west coast of Canada and west/central USA visiting family and friends. They also took several cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean.
Len was a quiet man, but in the right situation, he could be humorous and had a great laugh. Retiring early allowed Len to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Len loved to collect things, particularly automobile parts from Model A and T Fords and had a difficult time getting rid of anything.
Len will be greatly missed by family and friends and all who knew him.
