Obituary of Grace Stephens (nee Tubman)
Grace Stephens, 99, of Shawille, Quebec, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2021. Mary Helen Grace Tubman was born in Greermount, Quebec to Margaret Hodgins and James Tubman on May 26, 1922.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Debra Stephens (Brian); daughter-in-law, Gail Orr Tubman (Tom); grandchildren, Derek, Megan (Sebastien), Erin (Bryce) and Connor; and great-grandchildren Ethan, Colin, and Emily; her sisters-in-law, Jean Murray(Grant) and Carol Pirie (Versil), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Grace is predeceased by her spouse, Delbert Stephens; her special son, Carl Tubman; her parents, James and Margaret; as well as siblings, Lorne, Lennis, Gladys, Reuben, Leona, and Erlin.
Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. as well as prior to the funeral service on Wednesday morning from 10 – 11 a.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, October 20 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Stuart Marples officiating. Burial will follow at the Shawville Village Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Tubman’s Senior Home. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Lamarche for his decades of care. A special thank you goes to Trish Tubman, her staff and the residents at the Tubman’s Senior Residence where she made her home for the last years of her life. Their incredible care and kindness towards her were a true blessing, especially in her final days.
