Dad and Mom moved to Perth in 1965 where they operated their mixed dairy and beef farm on the Franktown road. Dad’s passions were nature, the land and animals and was a farmer to the very end! A conscientious hard worker who taught us a strong work ethic while keeping Sundays for family time and only necessary farm work. He loved his garden, flowers and family gatherings and he was most proud of his family and would beam when talking about them.
Known by many students whom he drove on the school bus for over 30 years where he wore a smile daily and upheld a perfect driving record of which he was proud of.
Special thanks to caregivers Uta Seidel and Pam Ross for their extraordinary compassion over the years which enabled Dad to remain home on the family farm as he wished. Extra special thanks to Rick (son) for all of his help on the farm over the years to enable Dad to continue farming. Thanks to all the many specialists, doctors and nurses over the years in particular at the Carleton Place Hospital where they showed great compassion.
Dad you were very stoic and fought a great fight displaying utmost courage when battling against numerous health issues for many years. You always had such amazing optimism – unbelievable amount of health issues thrown your way! – Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, liver cancer, prostate cancer, knee replacement surgeries, paralyzed diaphragm, shingles and heart issues resulting in a pacemaker. Rest in peace and suffer no more!
Your infectious smile will be dearly missed … we all love you so much and YOU will never be forgotten! “If after you are grown, you think back on your Father and your Childhood, and you Smile, you were raised by a Great man.” Thank you, Dad. We have gained another angel to look after us all!
For those who wish, a donation to the Carleton Place Hospital, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or The Terry Fox Run for cancer research in Dad’s name would be appreciated.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation. A private mass will be held for the family with an online virtual video funeral service St. Mary’s Church Carleton Place Ontario utube/barkerfh/gordonscissons
Arrangements entrusted to the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, Carleton Place.
