COLLINS, Gordon Joseph (December 13th, 1944 – December 5th, 2021) –
It is with profound sadness, we, the Collins family, announce the sudden, but peaceful passing of our much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, Gordon Joseph Collins, a long-time resident of Tillsonburg, at the age of 76. Gordon passed away on Sunday, December 5th, 2021, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. Born in Brantford, to the late Arthur Collins and late Edith (Dingman) Collins. Cherished husband and best friend of 41 wonderful years of Gail (nee Cosstick) Collins. Always a proud and caring father, father-in-law, and grandfather to Matt (Cheryl) Collins, of Tillsonburg and their daughters Hannah, Briella; Nathan Collins, of Tillsonburg; Melodie (Tim Mawson), of Brantford; Lorne Froats, of St. Mary’s and his daughter Grace. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and by many friends. Predeceased by four siblings Robert Collins, Joan Green, James Collins, Barbara Jarvis.
Gordon was a member of Tillsonburg Alliance Church. Gordon was formerly employed as a Purchasing Manager between DDM Plastics (1989-1999), Accuride Canada (1999-2007), then Guardian Industries (2008-2009). From 2011-2019, he was employed as a Security Guard with Garda World Security.
Always community-minded, Gordon was a resolute volunteer and scouting leader for many years with Scouts Canada and later the Baden-Powell Scouts’ Association of Canada (Canadian Traditional Scouting Association), 5th Tillsonburg. Gordon was also the Past President of the Tillsonburg Non-Profit Housing Corporation. In his spare time, Gordon was an avid Toronto Blue Jays Fan, and enjoyed his membership with the Otter Valley Amateur Radio Association (‘Ham Radio’).
A Traditional Funeral Service to Celebrate Gordon’s Life and Legacy will take place on Monday, December 13th, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes – Burial and Cremation Services Inc., 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg, under the care of Pastor Paul Woodburn, of Tillsonburg Alliance Church. Friends, relatives, and neighbours are invited to attend a public visitation on Sunday, December 12th, 2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, Tillsonburg. Please note, all visitation and funeral service attendees must RSVP for an available timeslot by clicking the blue ‘RSVP button’ on Gordon’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com. For those unable to attend, a livestream will be offered at Gordon’s online tribute page, where a link will appear under “photos and videos” within half an hour prior to the start of the funeral service (please email verhoevefuneral@kwic.com if you would prefer for a direct hyperlink to be emailed to you).
There are government-imposed capacity restrictions in place. All attendees must wear a mask and maintain social distancing regulations. At Gordon’s online tribute page, all are invited to share fond memories, favourite photos, send flowers or contribute memorial donations to the “Ontario Lung Association,” all of which would be gratefully acknowledged by the Collins family.
