Obituary
Gordon J C Benoit
Gordon J.C. Benoit continued his journey to meet the Creator on December 16, 2021. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Christiane and son Robyn James Piskwa, extended family, friends, and people he touched with his wit and unique sense of humor. Gord was predeceased by his mother Colombe Dzido and his son Gordon J.A. Benoit. Born in Fort Smith, as a Member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation, he grew up in Fort Chipewyan and Edmonton and later worked as a heavy equipment operator in mining and tailings operations and safety advisor in Fort Mc Murray, where he also chaired the Ft Mc Murray Housing Authority for a few years. He felt passionate about treaty rights, studied at the University of Athabasca and later, in front of court, supported by other treaty 8 nations, sought affirmation and recognition of the treaty promise made to his ancestors more than one hundred years ago. This passion never left him, and he loved sharing his knowledge.
In recent years, Gord developed a special bond with his dogs and enjoyed living in Thorhild County and working for Waste Management Canada.
Sincere thanks to the EMS teams of Redwater and Thorhild County for their fast attention and care.
