In Celebration of
Gloria Beverly Sloan (née Daley)
July 31, 1937 –
May 19, 2021
We are sad to announce of the passing of Gloria Sloan on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the age of 83; just a short time before her eighty-fourth birthday on July 31, (1937).
“Mom, Nana, Auntie Gloria, Glory, Glo.“
These are how all the many people whose lives she touched knew her. Her generous love and caring was known by us all and there was always a lot of it given by her.
She was a great and wonderful person here on this earth and is a great and wonderful soul now in Heaven where she wanted to be. Her faith was deep and completely selfless. She knew one day she would meet her Lord and share his love for her in Heaven. She is together now with all her family there in Heaven who I’m sure welcome her and share their love for her once more.
Gloria was born and raised in Montreal, and lived in a few places across this country including; Vancouver, Napanee, Winnipeg, and Belleville. She even spent some time living in Kingston, Jamaica.
Gloria is survived by her children, Ronald(Sandra), Bonnie(Doug), Scott(Melissa), and Jacklynne. As well as by all her grandchildren; Melanee, Elliott, Jonathan, Jessie, Christian, Aaron, Ty, Adrian, Joshua, Paige, and Nicholas.
Gloria is predeceased by her parents, George Barnett Daley, and Kathleen Rebecca Blois, her brothers, George William Daley, Ronald Barnett Daley, and the Father of her children, John Edwin Sloan.
I am grateful for all the love and kindness she always gave to me. Especially of her choice to bring me into this world as a young single mom, not an easy decision back in those days to raise a son on your own. We shared 62 years of life together and I am grateful for every minute of our time together.
She married when I was 5, and gave me even more … My Dad, brother and two sisters. What a generous gift!!
Mom was always a mom first, whatever she had to give she shared with all of us kids. We never wanted for anything important, she was always there for us and loved us all unconditionally. What a great Mom we’ve been lucky enough to have!!
Anyone who has ever been lucky enough to meet my mom knows how much her friendship with them meant to her.
Many of my friends from when we were just kids have gotten in touch to share how much they remember her kindness and fun-loving spirit and the times we all shared back then. She was of course, a friend to all of them as well.
This last year was a very hard one for my Mom. Being alone and not being able to share in the friendships she had was really hard for her. The beginning of last month she was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with lung cancer. Unfortunately that and other medical issues had her back in the hospital 3 times in the last month and a half. After being discharged from the hospital the second time, Mom got to spend some time at my brother Scott’s place and enjoyed a nice Mother’s Day with him and his family. She was very happy to be there and I am happy she had that time together with them. Everything seemed to be on track, she had completed her first round of Radiation and was scheduled to see her oncologist for a follow up appointment. Last week, (May 17th) everyone at my Brothers house woke up feeling sick, including my Mom. She was rushed to hospital again.
This last time she was diagnosed with Covid19. With all her other medical conditions, this is something she could not fight anymore. As her breathing failed her she was given something to calm her so she could pass peacefully into her final sleep.
She is no longer in any pain and in a better place where she wanted to be now.
We will all miss her wonderful spirit and love but it will never be forgotten.
Ron Sloan,
on behalf of all of us,
Bonnie, Scott, and Jackie.
We love you with all our hearts Mom and always will.
