Giuseppina (Josie) Spano
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Giuseppina ‘Josie’ Spano on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the young age of 53 years old at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Her heart was strong to the end when she passed away peacefully with her family by her side witnessing her final tear.
Josie was the beloved daughter of Rosa Ierfino and the late Pasquale Spano, and the cherished sister to Joe Spano. She will be deeply missed by her husband Frank Ruvo, children Jennifer (Julian), Frankie (Vanessa), and her golden grandson Orlando. Josie has touched the lives of so many and will be lovingly remembered by her in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, many dear friends and an entire community that she would serve with a smile on a daily at Lafrenaie Montreal-Ouest.
Her love for her family knew no limits, it was endless. Her life mission was to ensure that her children lead happy, fulfilled and healthy lives. Josie always knew a good time and how to plan the perfect celebration to the details. She brought love and joy to the room, and a smile so pure and radiant it has been instilled in our minds forever.
Josie and her daughter (Jennifer) were the faces behind Lafrenaie Montreal-Ouest; this duo was unstoppable and their love for each other was undeniably felt by all those who walked through their doors. You’d find Josie’s black Jeep Cherokee parked on Westminster as of 4 am each and every morning. No matter the day or time she’d welcome you with great cheer and make you feel so important. If you arrived before opening hours, she’d sneak you through the back to ensure you had your morning coffee and treat to start your day. She was a second mom to all the young staff she would take in like her own.
Josie was selfless and so kind; she loved talking, connecting and helping others. Hers hugs were mighty and meaningful, and felt by so many in her presence. She was truly one of a kind.
To celebrate her beautiful life, a visitation will be held on Monday, December 13th at Urgel Bourgie Feron / Athos, located at 1275 Av Dollard, Lasalle QC H8N 2J1. Visiting hours will be from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 14th at Madre Dei Cristiani Church 7935 rue Lefebvre, Lasalle QC H8N 2A9. The mass will take place at 11:00 AM.
We invite you to take part in the funeral ceremony by live streaming via facebook «Madre dei Cristiani church.

To Josie’s family,
I was so sorry to hear of her passing. Josie was the type of person people were automatically drawn to because of her openness, sincerity and genuine willingness to always want to help.
Josie and I were close acquaintances more than friends. For years, before every work day, I went to the bakery, where she made sure a hot cup of coffee and a fresh almond croissant were waiting for me.
Always friendly, always smiling…She was a good soul. May she rest in peace!
Rita Censi.
Our sincere sympathy to the whole family and the whole team at Lafrenaie. May dear Josie rest in peace. She was such a lovely person, brightening the days of all who encountered her. God Bless.

My deepest condolences to Josie’s family.
I am really shocked and saddened to hear this news. I have great memories of Josie from when I worked at Trattoria Spano’s. After working there, I continued to go by as a customer and saw the news of Josie’s passing on my recent walk to Lafrenier this afternoon. I am so sorry for your loss. She was always so kind, warm and welcoming. Just such a good person. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.
My sympathies Jen, I know Josie was so proud of you, sorry for your loss.
James
I am so shocked and so sad to hear of Josie’s passing; its hard to believe. I first met Josie at the trattoria. She was so helpful and always asked about my boys and then my grandson. I ordered many meals for hospital rounds and she made sure everything was perfect, every time. Then I followed her across the street to Lafrenaie! I was so happy for her and Jenn and admired her courage at launching that business. Although I didn’t see Josie often, I will miss her and how she made peoples days brighter. But we have our memories of her and her beautiful smile. My deepest condolences to her family. Lynne O’Halloran

I am so shocked and saddened by the passing of this wonderful woman. I only found out today as I entered the bakery and saw her photo. For years I was greeted by her cheerful smile as I bought my morning coffee. She had such a warm, loving presence about her and she will truly be missed. Gone way too soon. Condolences to all those who knew her and loved her…I know there are many.
