Gillian Grace Foster (nee Derrick) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Loving wife and best friend to David for 35 years, mother to Alexandra (Eric) and Kirsten (James), she also was thrilled to become a “Nan” last year to Norah. Jill was predeceased by her parents Garnet and Jocelyn Derrick. Jill was also an amazing friend, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt and cousin to a family too large to list. She was cherished and respected by all for her sage advice, calm demeanor, and zest for life.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Jill understood immediately she was a model of warmth, strength and generosity. A great mind, hard worker and full of boundless energy, she was most in her element when busy helping others. Jill set high standards for herself and those around her. She was a role model, friend and mentor to her girls, their friends and the students and clients she worked with throughout her career. She was involved in a number of clubs and organizations in the communities in which she lived, including the Wasaga Beach Co-op Nursery School, Girl Guides, Birchview Dunes Parent Council, Kinettes, the Wasaga Beach Horticultural Society, Big Sisters and CASLE.
Jill was passionate about equality, acceptance and care for our environment. She relished travel and discovering the beauty in the world both locally and globally. Jill always saw the best in the people and put the needs of others before her own.
Jill and her family offer their sincerest thanks to her health care team who helped navigate her decade-long journey with breast cancer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and/or to the RVH Regional Cancer Centre, or feel free to plant a perennial in her honour.
A private celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.

Dave, Alex and Kirsten,
Our sincere condolences. Jill was such a beautiful person. Always looked on the positive side of everything. Great smile and iconic laugh. She was a doer. Always there to lend a hand. She will be greatly missed by all who had been fortunate to meet and know her. Jill was so proud of her girls, and of course, her soul mate Dave.
Live, laugh and love.

Dave, Mike Derry advised me of Jill’s passing. That sent me back to the good old days with the fondest memories. Jill had such a great sense of humor and knew how to handle you like a pro! My heart goes out to you and the girls and your precious granddaughter for the loss of your life partner and best friend. My thoughts are with you Dave….
