Obituary for
Gilbert Hector Riou
The family announces with great sorrow his passing in Sudbury, Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the age of 81 years.
Gilbert Riou FCA, FCPA, proudly served his community and profession holding many prominent positions including president of the Sudbury and District Chamber of Commerce, president of Public Accountants Council of Ontario and elected member of board of directors of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He enjoyed spending time at the Sudbury Curling Club, and was a member for over 50 years bringing home the Men’s Industrial Curling Championship on multiple occasions. In the summer months he would dedicate his free time to planting trees at Lake Laurentian Conservation area.
Beloved husband of Nora (née St. Louis) Riou of Sudbury. Son of the late Roger and the late Gemma (née Lavoie) Riou. Loving father of Chantal Trépanier (Daniel) of Hanmer, Michèle Riou (Mike Squarzolo) of Garson, Denise Riou (Dieter) of North Bay and David Riou (Melissa) of Sudbury. Dear brother of Jacqueline Morin (Carmain) of Alberta, Paul Riou (Lise Beaulieu), Renée Riou (Gilbert Gagnon), Denis Riou (Lise Dionne), Robert Riou (Diane Babineau), Lucie Riou (Alain Auger) and Jean-François Riou (Lucille Marcotte) all of Quebec. Predeceased by his sister Marie Latulippe (Lucien of Quebec) and by his brother Bernard Riou. Cherished grandfather of Nora Roberts, Kaylee Trépanier, Mariah Roberts, Zoé Myre, Makenna Trépanier, Owen Myre and Hayden Myre. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury, Thursday, November 25, 2021, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, November 26, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St-Jean-de-Brébeuf Church, Sudbury.
