Gilbert Douglas Ruttan Wednesday August 4th 2021

RUTTAN, Gilbert Douglas – It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Gilbert ‘Doug’ Ruttan on Wednesday August 4, 2021 at the age of 83. The world has lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. Doug is predeceased by his parents, Francis & Irene (nee Liberty), and his two brothers Bill and Jim. He is survived by his wife Sharon of 42 years, his son Paul, his daughter Suzanne, and his grandchildren of whom he was very proud of, Rachael, Josh (Dan) and Elizabeth. Doug’s career began with the Toronto Dominion Bank and he founded and operated Birdsall Beach Park on Rice Lake for many years. He then took to raising and racing standardbred horses which brought him great joy. Doug loved his country music. He could be found sitting on his deck or Florida sunroom with Johnny Cash playing in the background. He enjoyed a round of golf, a good debate of politics and time spent with family & friends. He will be dearly missed. A private family service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, Hastings. Interment at Centre Cemetery, Trent Hills. In memory of Doug, donations may be made to St. George’s Anglican Church, Hastings. Online condolences may be made at www.brettfuneralchapels.com.
