Obituary
With heavy hearts, but with extreme gratitude for a life long lived, the family of Gerald H. Schofield, husband of the late Marion (Craft) Schofield announces his sudden passing which occurred on December 30, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his children at his side.
Born in Newtown, NB on November 27, 1927, he was the son of Silas and A. Gertrude (Robinson) Schofield. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Stevens (Brian) of Grand Bay-Westfield, son Kevin (Cathy) of Quispamsis and grandchildren Jennifer Stevens (Harold Gallant), Jodi Stevens, Carly Bryan (Robert), Rebecca Matthews (Tristan), Kelsey Schofield and Liam Allen, as well as great-granddaughter Eleanor (Ella) Matthews, and soon to be born great-grandson “Matthews”
Gerry moved to Saint John in 1945 and began a career that would span over 45 years at T.S. Simms. Always a believer in “you’re never too old to learn”, Gerald earned his high school diploma in the 1980’s after leaving school in grade 9. He was an original founding member of the “Good Times Bowling League” where he bowled for over 60 years. He was a long term member of St. Mark’s United Church, and was very involved with the Loyal Orange Lodge, serving in many capacities, including recording secretary, treasurer and master.
In addition to his parents and wife, Gerald was pre-deceased by his brother Donald, and his sister Olive Carter.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation being held on Tuesday, January 4th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The memorial service will be held from St. Mark’s United Church, 50 Dexter Drive on Wednesday, January 5th at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
For those who wish, remembrances to Meals on Wheels, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Please note that due to the regulations placed on indoor gatherings, proof of vaccination is required for anyone attending the visitation or memorial service, along with government issued identification. Anyone wishing to attend the memorial service must call the funeral home (646-2424) to RSVP.
