Our husband, father, and Opa, Reverend George Van Arragon, died unexpectedly on December 27, 2021 at the age of 79. He was born August 14, 1942 in Zuidwolde, Netherlands. He was married for 48 years to Freda Van Arragon (née Proper). He was a pastor starting his ministry in Alliston CRC in 1979 and a chaplain at Oshawa General Hospital and Shalom Manor for 29 years. George had a deep love for his wife, children and grandchildren.
George found deep spiritual meaning ministering faithfully alongside the Kairos community over the past 40 years. He loved travel, visiting 30 countries and 48 of the 50 states. He would talk often of his travels and his days hitchhiking. He was especially fond of his time doing archaeology in Jordan in 1971. George loved his lifelong study of the Bible focusing particularly on Psalms and Isaiah. He took good joy woodworking in his shop, reading from and beyond his extensive library. He was passionate about art and music of eastern Orthodoxy.

The funeral will take place at Scott Street Church (339 Scott St, St. Catharines, ON L2N 1J7) on Thursday December 30, 2021 at 1pm. A private interment will be held at Burlington Memorial Gardens for immediate family. Due to COVID restrictions, contact tracing will be completed at the church. Masks are to be worn at all times.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Canadian Food Grains Bank or Smithville Christian High School.

  2. He will be greatly missed by his Kairos brothers and sisters and especially those he ministered to on the inside. He was regularly cornered after his talks by men who had so many more questions and knew he would have answers. Praying for strength

  3. I remember George with fondness and a deep appreciation for all I learned from him during his time in Oshawa. He was such a humble, brilliant manmwho served God faithfully. May God give you comfort as you grieve your loss.

  4. John taught through example. His greatest example was showing the love of God on earth. We will all miss his kindness and savour his friendship.
