George Unger 1930 2021

George Unger
1930 – 2021
George Unger was born on October 24, 1930, and passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021, in Medicine Hat. Though 91 is a significant age to attain, it was still too young for those of us who knew and loved him.
Growing up near McMahon, Saskatchewan in the 30’s, George had childhood stories of a frugal but happy time on the farm. He had a career in the Canadian Armed Forces where he worked as an electrician. Four of his years in the service were spent in Germany. Following his retirement from the military, George spent time working at the Western Development Museum and spent a short time driving a school bus. For many years after his retirement, George was a volunteer driver. He generously gave his time to caring for people. George truly demonstrated kindness that the world could use a lot more of.
George was part of a loving family. He was the husband to Shirley; dad to Doug and Colleen; step-father to Kevin and Sherri; grandpa to Jason, Andrea, Gillian, Evan, Levi, Autumn, Ebanie, Jade, Stephen, Amanda, Nicholas, Jordan and Jessica; and great-grandpa to Aubree, Jason, Luna, Lincoln, Piper, Olivia and Rayna. George was predeceased by his nine brothers and one sister.
George and Shirley moved to Medicine Hat in 2009. George had a great appreciation for nature and enjoyed walks taken in Strathcona and Police Point Park. He was always thankful for his health and often expressed how good his life was. His gentle spirit and joyful outlook will be missed by all.
A Celebration of George’s life will be held at a later date.
