THOMPSON, George Russell
After a long illness, George Thompson died peacefully, at North Bay Regional Health Centre, on Saturday, February 6, 2021. He was 68 years old. George was the beloved husband of Caroline (Hummel) and the much-loved father of Della Oshell (Joe) and Penny Desormiers (Al Harwood), all of Powassan. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Alyssa, Merissa, Austin and Serena. George was the dear brother of Laura Chapman of Powassan, Eileen Benedict (Steve) of Arizona, Robert Thompson (Gail) of Elliott Lake, Glenn Thompson (Lynn) of North Bay, Jean St. Pierre (Ron) of North Bay and David Thompson (Michele) of Callander. He was predeceased by his parents Elsie (Gallagher) and John Thompson; and by his siblings-in-law Bill, Paulette and Conrad. George was a retired North Bay Correctional Officer. He was an active member of his community and volunteered wherever there was a need. Some of his time was spent volunteering as a Town Councillor, a firefighter, and an organizer of the Powassan Maple Syrup Festival, among others. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of George’s life will be announced at a later date.
