George Lambert LeGrow 2021

George Lambert LeGrow
September 27, 1936 – July 06, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George LeGrow on July 6, 2021 at his home in the company of his loving caregiver, Elizabeth Lewis. Predeceased by his mother Maisie Kelland LeGrow Whalen, his father Alfred LeGrow, and stepfather Joseph Whalen; sisters-in-law Doreen LeGrow, Susie LeGrow, and Alice Whalen; and brother-in-law Clyde Little. Left to mourn with great sorrow but also to celebrate his life are his brothers Nelson LeGrow, Joseph LeGrow, Norman (Linda) Whalen, Marven (Pearl) Whalen, Bruce (Glendine) Whalen, and sisters Beverly (Murray) Hatt, and Sharon Whalen. George also leaves a large circle of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, relatives and friends, who loved him very much, as he loved them.
It could be said that George had three lives: one in Bauline where he lived for 18 years; one on Portugal Cove Road where he lived for over 45 years; and another on Radio Range Road where he lived for over 20 years.
George was born and grew up in Bauline. The youngest of three brothers, his father died when he was two years old. As the resident big brother of a new family, he helped with the care of the children, worked in the potato garden at Duck Pond, and loved the freedom and productivity of berry-picking.
He was the last remaining member of a unique friendship during his time on Portugal Cove Road. George, Graham Brewer, and Mary Davis are fondly remembered as friends who supported one another in equal measure, and who enjoyed being out and about in the community, visiting local stores and walking the roads and paths of the area.
After his mother’s passing, George built a new life. With assisted living, he had the opportunity to try new things and have an independent home. His “Big Momma,” Elizabeth Lewis, was always there to support and care for him. Bridget O’Brien became his dear friend and companion in his daily activities. His buddies Tim Bishop, Ross Escott, and Kim Stringer helped and supported him in living this happy new phase of his life.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, Torbay, Friday, July 9, 2021, with visitation 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at Bauline United Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 with interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery on Pouch Cove Line.
