Obituary
It is with great sadness the family of Mr. George McCaffrey announce his passing Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Battlefords District Care Centre at the age of 86 years.
George is survived by his wife, Yvonne Cecile McCaffrey (Arnault); their children: father to eldest, Vickie McCaffrey – married to Dana Bash live in Prince Rupert; eldest son, Martin “Kim” McCaffrey Edam – son Cayle Worstroh (Spirit Wood); daughter, Shanne McCaffrey – Victoria, B.C. – son, Brandon McCaffrey who married Sarah in 2020; son, Geordy McCaffrey – married to Jennifer (Acaster) Saskatoon – sons: Carson, Jared and Kirby all in Saskatoon; Siblings: Germaine Bellanger ( husband George) – Mervin; Pauline Phaneuf – St. Agath mb. Edward McCaffrey – (wife June) – Vawn sk; Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents: Philippe and Annie McCaffrey; siblings: Patrick McCaffrey (wife Stella) – North Battleford; Paul McCaffrey – (wife Ruth) Edam; Lorraine Lacoursiere – North Battleford; Raymond McCaffrey (wife Simone) -Edam; Georgette Roach – (husband Pete) – Edam; Laurette St. Amant – (husband Alberic);
George was born June 4th, 1934, in Edam Saskatchewan to father Philippe and mother Annie. Early years George Ranched and farmed near Vawn. He was a gifted athlete who loved baseball, hockey and broom ball. He was proud to play defence for the notorious Vawn Cougars depicted in Billy Brownridges art and book the “Moccasin Goalie”. In his 40’s he pursued his love of horses becoming a highly skilled trainer. He owned a stable of top-notch quarter and thoroughbred horses. He assembled a long list of trophies and accomplishments – he had numerous stakes winning thoroughbreds throughout the years. In his later years he ranched and spent time hobby woodworking.
George loved spending time with his family and grand boys. His face would light up when family visited and spent time with him. He loved the outdoors and went on many adventures with family and friends. He built a cordwood cabin overlooking the Saskatchewan river where he would have tea and relax with family and friends. George was a dog person that loved his fury friends and their company. George was content petting and catering to his dogs that very seldom lay left his side.
George spent his winters in Victoria near the ocean. The warm weather, great food and layback atmosphere drew George every winter. When the days got longer and spring was on the horizon like the birds George returned to his farm that he so loved.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Trevor Watts of Eternal Memories Funeral Service & Crematorium.
