Obituary for Mr. George Harry Humberstone
Sunrise: July 31, 1936 – Sunset: October 6, 2020
George passed away at home, in Langley BC, after a long battle with prostate cancer. George will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 62 years, Geraldine, their son Wayne, daughter-in-law Stephanie and grandpuppy Ozzie. He was predeceased by his mother (Victoria Belech), stepfather (Jack Belech), father (George Humberstone Sr.) and stepmother (Isabell Humberstone).
Growing up in the East End of Vancouver, George attended Lord Nelson, Templeton and Vancouver Technical Secondary schools. He was active in sports, from hockey at the Forum to baseball, basketball, soccer and high school track and field. George worked in the printing industry for over 30 years as a typesetter and graphic artist. He spent his final seventeen years working at Harvey Bowden & Sons and Western Business Forms.
Retiring at a young age, George and Geri became snowbirds, spending their winters in Mesa Arizona for almost 20 years. They spent most of their summers at Otter Point in Sooke, BC enjoying happy hours and catching chinook and sockeye salmon along with many dog fish.
It was in Arizona where George discovered his love of pottery. He was self-taught in making handmade pottery and especially loved the designs, carvings, and techniques of the Hopi Native American culture. George’s pottery creations can be found in homes around the globe.
He also enjoyed golfing, playing games and poker nights with his friends. He especially loved playing slot machines and played at many casinos from Vancouver to Arizona.
George was a loving and caring husband and father. He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May you rest in peace, gone but never forgotten in our hearts and minds. Thank you to Dr. Martin Gleave, of the Vancouver Prostate Centre, and family physician Dr. Benjamin Baby for their many years of care. A special thanks to Ruby and Wayne Chow for all their help and support.
A Celebration of Life may be held in the spring of 2021. You are invited to sign the family’s online Memorial Book of Condolences below.
