Obituary
George H. Noseworthy age 82 years passed peacefully away in the presence of his immediate family on December 22nd, 2021 at the Health Science Centre. Predeceased by his wife, Martha (2014); sisters: Hazel Nugent (1992), Elsie Brushett (2018) and Rose Learie (2015). Leaving to mourn his soulmate, Shirley Pike Mullaly and her children: Dena Mullaly (Chris Rogers) and Paul Mullaly (Paulette); five grandchildren: Ashley Rossiter, Ryan Mahoney, Melissa Penney, Mark Mullaly and Morgan Mullaly; greatgrandchildren: Claire, Jack and Ethan Mullaly.
George’s children: Dr. Mary Noseworthy and George Noseworthy (Tina Yetman) and five grandkids: Roman, Liam, Mary and Ciara McDonald and Logan Noseworthy. His siblings: Hazel Nugent (Mike) Deceased, Rose Learie (Jim) deceased, Doris Minnett (Joe deceased), Elsie Brushett (Vern) deceased, Harold (Maxine), Ada Rose (Winston deceased), Robert (Doreen) and Bill (Kay). Sister-in-law, Wendy Yetman (Bernie Grant) children: Zachary Yetman and Carter Skinner. Also leaving to mourn a large circle of family and friends.
George grew up on Beaumont Street St. John’s, Westend and graduated from St. Michaels school in St. John’s, and Trades College in St. John’s. His career in television stated with CBNT in the early 1960’s. When CBC T.V. went on the air in 1964 he moved from the Browning Harvey to its new station on Prince Phillip Drive. He covered many national and world sporting events with CBC including the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, numerous commonwealth games, royal visits, Charles and Diana in 1982, the arrival of the Matthew from Bristol to Newfoundland in 1997 to commemorate John Cabot’s voyage from 1497. He also covered local shows like Codco, Skipper and Company, Land and Sea, Here and Now and many others over 35 years. He was the president of the national broadcasting technician union (NABET). He loved his outdoor life at Goobies, his cabin on North Harbour Pond. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family. Special thank you to the staff on 4 North A, especially Dr. Stewart Rorke, Dr. Erin Powell, Dr. David Larson, Dr. Tara Laing and Dr. Karen Downton and to the cancer clinic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of one’s choice. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, Wednesday, December 29th, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9, following alert level 3 guidelines.
