HYSERT, Gary Charles
June 2, 1943 – March 13, 2021
Gary passed away peacefully at home, holding his daughter’s hand, after a long illness. Gary was the consummate gentleman and a truly good man. He was kind, gentle and patient (despite the fact that his favourite pastime was slamming drawers while swearing quietly under his breath).
Gary grew up a simple farm boy, who moved off to Scotland and met a beautiful Scottish Lass (Ann) who stole his heart. They were married for over 51 years, and their love built a beautiful home in which they raised 3 warm and confident daughters. In recent years, the light of Gary’s life was his granddaughter Maggie, who loved her ‘Papa’ dearly.
Gary had a long and successful career working for the National Research Council of Canada in Metrology. He did however once nearly get fired for the infamous ‘Expose Yourself to Metrology’ marketing poster he and a colleague created, which did not leave much to the imagination.
Gary had 3 loves in his life: his family, his dog Spud (so-called because he looked like a dirty potato) and hockey. He was a rabid Montreal Canadians fan, despite growing up in the GTA, and could oft be heard shouting at the TV on many Saturday nights, with his loyal dog by his side. Gary passed away with Spud sitting on his knee, keeping him warm, just as he would have wanted it.
Please join Gary’s family for a ‘Scottish Wake’ on Saturday March 20, 2021 at 7PM EST on zoom ( link provided below )
for a time of telling stories about Gary, sharing a pint or a dram and celebrating his life by wearing a bit of Tartan.
Donations to Community Living North Grenville would be gratefully accepted.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Gary Charles Hysert Saturday March 13th 2021..
