NYKOLUK, Gail Anne
Gail Anne Nykoluk, of Red Deer, AB, born February 29, 1956, passed away with family at her side on Saturday, August 28, 2021, after a short and aggressive battle with cancer.
Gail was born in Weyburn, SK. She, and her twin brother Garry, were the youngest of the seven children born to Ralph and Jean Mokelki. Gail grew up helping on the family farm and attended school in Goodwater, SK. Gail was excellent at any sport during her school days, but she especially loved fastball. She played well into adulthood including on a competitive ladies team in Weyburn. Friendships and loyalty were always important to her. If she was your friend, you knew she had your back.
After high school, she spent the next 17 years living around the Maxim, SK area. Gail had four children; Tara, Kurt, Andrea, and Alisha and was very involved in the farming community. Gail enjoyed working off the farm as a Care Aid at Souris Valley Mental Health Hospital.
In 1991, Gail made the move to Lloydminster to find work. She moved herself and her children and took up employment at the provincial upgrader. This is where she would meet the love of her life, Wayne, and they would spend the next four years living in Lloydminster. In 1995 they relocated to Central Alberta, spending the next 26 years in Sylvan Lake and Red Deer areas. Gail worked many years in the area as a waitress, and this is where she really shone. Her warm personality and contagious laugh would immediately put everyone at ease. Gail was a natural care giver and was always willing to lend a hand to anybody in need.
Some of the best times of Gail’s life were spent in Cabo San Lucas with her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family. There were countless memories made, in the 10 years of vacations to Cabo.
Gail was immensely proud of her children and loved spending time with them. There were always treats to be found at grandma’s house, and often she could be found baking something delicious in the kitchen.
Gail is lovingly remembered by her husband of 30 years, Wayne Nykoluk of Red Deer; daughter, Tara Patrick of Red Deer; son, Kurt (Tami) Becker of Bonnyville; daughter, Andrea (Jody) MacLeod of Brisbane, Australia; daughter, Alisha Becker (Kalon Ternes) of Medicine Hat; grandchildren, Chase, Kadence, Slade, Ryker, Kian, and Amelia; sisters: Patsy Ernst, Lana (John) Tosczak; brothers, Chris (Wendy) Mokelki, Garry (Donelda) Mokelki; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Gail was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Jean Mokelki; brothers, Roy Mokelki, Danny Mokelki; sister-in-law Lois Mokelki; brother-in-law, Albert Ernst; niece Tracy Mokelki and granddaughter, Abigail MacLeod
