Obituary of Frieda Ethel Field
Field, Frieda – With broken hearts we say goodbye to our Mom Frieda, who passed away on May 28th at West Lincoln Hospital in Grimsby. Just before her 90th Birthday.
Born Frieda Ethel Wardell, on June 7th 1931, along with her twin brother Frederick, to delighted parents Ira and Edna Wardell of Spring Creek Road, Lincoln.
Frieda is survived by her loving children Yvonne (Ewen), Marshall (Erica) and Rachel (Kevin). Grandchildren who affectionately knew her as Gram Gram, Julia (Blair), Reid, Ciera and Will. Great Grandchildren Devon, Jacob and Ryan. Nieces Linda, Anne Marie, Mary Lou and Nephew Fred. Frieda is predeceased by her parents and sister Gladys ( Russell) and Zeta Marie (Bert) and her wonderful husband Ray.
Frieda attended Tintern Public School, Beamsville High School and Marvel Hairdressing School in Hamilton which led to her dream of owning her own salon- Frieda’s Beauty Salon in Beamsville. Frieda met the man of her dreams , Ray Field, at Tintern United Church where she played the organ every Sunday. They were the perfect couple!
They built their forever home on Spring Creek Road next door to Ray’s family well drilling business where hairdressing ,well drilling and raising their family kept them very busy. Frieda enjoyed various roles in the UCW at Tintern Church supporting the community church suppers, wedding showers and funeral services with her wonderful pies and goodies.
Frieda will always be remembered for her fabulous dinner parties, card parties, holiday celebrations, and birthdays where there was always an Angel food cake for the birthday boy or girl. Frieda loved canning vegetables from her garden, many fruits especially peaches from the Niagara bounty, which were appreciated all winter.
Frieda enjoyed snowmobiling and their cottage was a wonderful retreat during the winter months where they travelled all over the Port Loring area with their dear friends. After a day on the trails, there was always a great chili followed by many games of Euchre.
Frieda and Ray travelled during their role as Presidents of the Ontario Water Well Association. They enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and Panama making lifelong friends along the way as well as local weekend getaways to Lake Huron and the Grand River to spend time with friends.
Frieda enjoyed her Grandchildren so much and always made them feel special when she spent time with them. She also enjoyed many cottage holidays, trips to Canada’s Wonderland and shopping trips. As they grew up she encouraged their dreams and was so proud of their accomplishments. When Great Grand children came along she often commented on how lucky she was to have them in her life.
So with happy tears we say good bye to a wonderful Mom, Aunt, Gram Gram and friend. Frieda enjoyed life to the fullest and was blessed with many wonderful friends along the way who will be waiting for her.
Special thanks to the friendship and nursing support of Colleen Yellow who helped Mom remain happily in her home until just two weeks ago. A huge Thank You to Dr Allaby of West Lincoln Hospital and her team of tireless nurses and staff who made Mom very comfortable in her final days.
Interment will take place at Lanes Cemetery on Tuesday June 1st. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Frieda would suggest, as soon as permitted, that everyone should enjoy a good haircut and think of her!
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Frieda
Ethel
