Freeman’s Obituary
With heavy hearts and a lasting hole in our family, we announce that our husband, and father Freeman Francis Scott passed away quietly Wednesday, March 3rd after a brief battle with a rare form of bile duct cancer. He was born in Shelburne Dec. 7, 1949 to Freeman Scott and Merle (Williams) Scott. He was a fisherman all of his life encompassing both longlining and swordfishing and many others. In recent years he fulfilled a lifelong dream of starting a lobster fishing business beside his son Kevin. This was a great source of satisfaction and joy to dad while also allowing him to spend more time at home which he loved. People that knew him will remember his dry humor, easygoing nature and how much of a giving family man he was. He made and kept friends easily over the years and loved his daily run to Tim’s for coffee. He loved being outdoors and was a very skilled carpenter. One of his favorite places was the camper lot by the shore in the summer alongside family, friends and his much loved furry “son” Bo. Music was important to dad and he was an accomplished guitar player and singer. Many will remember the music jams he took part in. We, the family will remember him for all this and so much more in the 71 years we were blessed to have him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Peggy, daughter Debbie (David), son Kevin (Ruth), grandchildren Stacey, Cody (Samantha), Brittany (Ryan), and Kayla. He also had 6 great grandchildren who brought him much joy. He is survived also by siblings Harold (JR), Burns (Tummy), Kate, Marlene, Yvonne, Dot, Alma, Paul, Vivi, Mabel, Dawn and Michael and their families and many nieces and nephews whom he cherished.
He was predeceased by his mother Merle and father Freeman and also two infant siblings and his infant son David Francis.
Arrangements are under the direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. There will be a funeral service on Saturday March 6th from the Huskilson’s Funeral Home Chapel in Shelburne. No visitation by request of the family. Family flowers only. Due to Covid restrictions the wearing of mask and social distancing will be in effect and priority for seating will be given to the family.
Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Shelburne and Yarmouth hospital or charity of your choice. We also thank both Yarmouth and Shelburne hospitals for their care and consideration to dad while he was there. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.huskilson.net
