Montpetit – Frederick William 1937 – 2021
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Fred on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the Welland County General Hospital in his 85th year. Beloved husband of 59 years to Wanda (nee Wojtaszek). Dear and loving father of David Montpetit (Kimberly Humphreys) of Kelowna British Columbia; and Michael (Kelly) Montpetit of St Louis Missouri; and Mark Montpetit of Toronto Ontario. Beloved grandfather of Jordan Montpetit, Brock Montpetit and Garret Montpetit, of St Louis Missouri. Fred joins in eternal peace his beloved mother Olga Montpetit, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Born and raised in Welland Ontario, Fred moved to Fonthill Ontario where he and Wanda raised their family and were active members of the community. He was a long-time member of St. Alexander’s Catholic Church in which he and Wanda would attend and volunteer regularly.
His 35-year career in education spanned numerous positions at the Niagara Catholic School Board and the District School Board of Niagara – including teaching and leading special education – before retiring as Principal at St. Mary’s School of Niagara Falls. Post-retirement he consulted with Canisius College in Buffalo New York until his mid-70s.
Fred cherished his friends and extended family. He enjoyed gathering and celebrating with others, including being the founding member of The Romeo’s, a monthly social group. Throughout his life Fred enjoyed travelling, even dabbling as a travel agent in his retirement. He and Wanda travelled extensively, visiting several countries world-wide.
In keeping with Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate his life will be announced once it is safe to gather again. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Hotel Dieu Shaver Foundation www.foundation.hoteldieushaver.org/site/home
