Frederick Marks Wednesday April 28th 2021

Gone home to be with his Lord.
It is with great sadness that the family of Fred Marks announce his passing, in his 91st year, on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. He leaves behind his beloved wife of almost 65 years Isabel (“Izzy”) and children, Leslie Ann (d. 2012), Rick (Jennifer), Karen and Daniel (Robin). Proud Grandpa to Kristin, Caleb (Jessica); Grandpa Fella to Ryan, Sara, Hollace and Hyde, and Proud Great Grandpa to the twins Adelaide and Evelyn.
To Lyndsay and Sandy from Branches of Life, thank you does not say enough for the many years of caring for Dad and Mom; with respect, kindness and most of all, love.
Fred was born and raised in Hamilton, attended the University of Western Ontario and upon graduation he discovered the lumber business. He worked for Nicholson and Cates for a number of years before establishing Marks Lumber Limited in 1967. Under his guidance the company grew from a one man wholesale business, operating out of his basement on Allwood St to one of the leading lumber remanufacturers in the country. He sold a lot of 2×4’s.
He retired shortly before the business was sold in 2000 and that afforded him the opportunity of pursuing his other passion, golf. He was an avid golfer and loved nothing more than playing 18 holes with the “old guys” at the BGCC. Sadly, Fred didn’t enjoy the same success at golf that he did in the lumber business but then again, not many 85 year olds can claim to have scored a hole in one!
Fred loved to laugh and enjoy time with his family and he was the consummate gentleman. He made friends wherever he went and always had a kind word for people and many times, these words took the form of a personalized letter, of which he must have written thousands.
And most of all, he loved the Lord his God. He had a tremendous faith in God, lead by example and never shied away from speaking about his faith, be it from the pulpit at church or a friendly one on one conversation. He was an example of what it meant to live your life for God and he faithfully attended Fairview Gospel Hall until his health prevented it.
While Fred loved puttering away in his garden, he was also a practical man and it was his wish that flowers be discouraged and instead, donations be made to Mount Forest Camp or Compact Resource Foundation (compactrf.ca). A private family service will take place. Arrangements entrusted at TOLL FUNERAL HOME www.tollfh.ca
He was a great husband, father and friend, and will be sorely missed.
“And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”
