Obituary of Frederic Brooks
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Frederic Earle Brooks, beloved husband of Rita (O’Neill) Brooks, announces his passing at home on January 25, 2021. Born in Saint John on February 9, 1936, he was the son of the late Harry and Beryl (White) Brooks.
After graduating from Vocational School in 1956, Fred immediately went to work at N.B. Tel and enjoyed a 35-year career there, working mainly in Saint John with a few years in Fredericton. His major job was as a Network Supervisor, but he also spent time in Plant School as a trainer. He was a member of Boy Scouts and had many fond memories of camping at Fundy National Park in the rain. After retirement, you could find him having a coffee at Tim’s with his buddies. Fred shared with his wife Rita a love of genealogy and was a total history buff – he could tell you anything you wanted to know about any of the world wars. Fred also had a green thumb and liked to garden, and he collected tools which he may or may not have used over the years, but certainly, if you needed something, he likely had just the thing. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Fred is survived by his wife Rita; their daughters Tracey Brooks and partner Christopher Hamilton of Edmonton, Alberta, her daughter Kristin Brooks and her partner Christopher Dempsey and their children Kayden and Paityn Brooks-Dempsey, all of Saint John,; Tammy Klein and her husband Royce and all his relatives of Australia; their sons Michael Brooks and his partner Anya King and his daughters Taylor and Danielle (their mother Rachel) and her son Donovan, all of Saint John; Matthew Brooks and his partner Aleksandra Kulczynska, their son Lukas, his children Logan and Ella and their mother Michelle, all of Calgary, Alberta. He also leaves two sisters; Margaret Dawson and her husband Bud of Edmonton, Alberta, and Ada Wilson (late Ernie) of Saint John; and a brother-in-law, David O’Neill and his wife Terri of Oromocto, N.B.; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by two infant sons, John and Timothy; his sister Nola Gaudette; nephew Michael Gaudette; as well as his mother and father-in-law James and Celeste O’Neill.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424), due to the circumstances of the current pandemic, there will be no public visitation and a private graveside will be held. Donations to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program are appreciated by the family, and online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
