Fred’s Obituary
LOMBARD, Fred Joseph, age 84 of Berwick, formerly of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, surrounded by his loving family in Grand View Manor, Berwick. He was born in Little Brook, Digby County and was the son of Emile and Rita (Lombard) Burgoyne. He grew up in Digby and he was the oldest of six boys.
Fred started working as a young boy peeling pulp wood. At the end of the week when he was paid, he would give most of his money to his mother to help with the family. He would later drive the mail and milk truck as well, he always had a strong work ethic. As Fred got older, Michelin Plants began to open in Nova Scotia. He applied and got a job as a labourer in the Bridgewater Plant. He then decided to attend night school to become qualified to work in the boiler room as a Stationary Engineer where he remained for over 30 years and retired as a foreman in 1993.
Fred and his wife Blondie sold their home in Bridgewater and converted a bus and travelled all through the United States and Alaska. After Blondie’s passing, November 12, 1996, shortly after that, he reunited with Clara. Fred and Clara decided to move to Bridgewater where they purchased a home in Midville Branch and remained there for twenty years.
Fred is survived by his common-law wife, Clara (Amirault), of 26 years; son Fred (Chris Loblick) Edmonton, Alberta; three granddaughters, Allison, Emily, Eila and two great grandsons; brothers Paul Burgoyne (Barb Sulis), Burnell Burgoyne (Lee Walsh) both of Seabrook and niece Brenda and son Chad Melanson (Fred), Grosses Coques; stepchildren Karen (Harold) Prime, Coldbrook. Cindy (Don) Dufour, Lewiston, Maine USA; Laurie (Ronnie) Carter, Yarmouth; Mark Wagner (Melissa Marshall), Centreville Kings County and several grandchildren and nieces. He was predeceased by his brothers Murray, Merlin and David Burgoyne.
Visitation will be held 2-4 pm with Deacon Don Boudreau conducting prayers at 3pm, Friday October 1, 2021, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, Middleton. A graveside service will be held Saturday October 2, 2021, at 11 am in Madonna Cemetery, Marshalltown. Father Raymond Odumuko officiating. Due to gathering restrictions, masking, social distancing and hand sanitizing are required. A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Grand View Manor for their care, support and thoughtful compassion.
