Obituary
Frank was born on March 12, 1937 in Perth Western Australia, and lived until May 31, 2021. He is survived by his dear wife, Edith, and many relatives in Western Australia. He will also be missed by members of the Gibsons Yacht Club, and friends on “C” dock at Gibsons Marina.
Frank was born in Perth, Western Australia. He came to Canada in April 1958, on a two-year trip around the world, and stayed in British Columbia for 60+ years. However, he, with his first wife, Katie burned many a trail back to Perth.
He will be missed by his sailing friends in the Royal Perth Yacht Club.
Frank was a dedicated sailor and enjoyed cruising up and down the coast of BC. He was active in the Gibsons Yacht Club. He also raced sailboats with the Royal Perth Yacht Club and the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. He also spent many happy times with his beloved niece Genine at West Busselton, in WA. He graduated from UBC in the class of 1965 with a BA. Later he attended Simon Fraser University where he achieved a Master of Ed degree in the class of 1985. Frank had a varied career, starting as a teacher, then Principal, and 9 years in the Prince George School Board Office as Director of Staff Development. In 1989 Frank left public education and went into the retail world with the purchase of Pastimes, the toy store in Sechelt. With his darling, always hard working, second wife, Edith, they ran a very successful business.
Frank had two great loves: One was singing in choirs, and wherever he lived he joined a choir. This hobby spanned 60+ years. His other love was sailboats, and the sea.
With Edith he owned three keelboats. His great love was “Linnaea”, the beautiful Hunter 36. Frank and Edith had very high standards in keeping Linnaea absolutely gleaming, and people often strolled by on “C” dock in Gibsons Marina to admire Linnaea. For seven years Frank and Edith lived on Linnaea for Northern summer, and then they flew to Perth to enjoy southern summer. Frank spent southern summer racing sailboats, walking on the beautiful beaches in the Perth area, and fishing in Safety Bay with his late brother Ron. At last count Frank has crossed the Equator 60 times.
Finally, the boat was sold, and Frank and Edith Returned to Gibsons, where they purchased a house on Shaw Road. He spent many years growing vegetables, Dahlias, Glads and Rhodos in his garden. In 2018 Frank and Edith moved to Oliver, BC, where they lived for a year and a half, then back to Gibsons, where Frank lived out his northern summers and winters.
