Obituary
Stewart, Frances
The family of Frances Isabel Macpherson Stewart are saddened to announce her death on May 16, 2021 at the age of 103.
Mom was born to William and Charlotte Macpherson on May1, 1918 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, and spent her early years there and in Broadview, Melville and Biggar. After graduation from high school, she attended Saskatoon Business College and over the years used these skills working in banks, schools, City offices and Law Practises.
In 1943 she and Dad were married, and his career with C.N. saw them move to 12 different Saskatchewan communities. In each of these towns they made lifelong friends, and became pillars of the community. Mom was involved in service organizations, golf clubs, curling clubs, all activities that we were involved in, bridge clubs and of course The United Church of Canada. Mom was a charter member of the UCW, and her entire life has been testimony to her faith in a living, loving God. In a world where one could choose to be anything, Mom always chose to be kind. Kind in word, thought and deed.
Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling and saw much of the world, they also enjoyed many happy winters in Arizona with friends and family. They were great dancers, and golfed regularly with friends in their park. Mom loved walking and practised yoga daily well into her nineties. They always had guests for extended stays, or just dinner or patio parties, and mom was a very warm and gracious hostess.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband James “Jim” Stewart, her brothers Norman (Ethel) Macpherson, Neil (Alice) Macpherson, all of Dad’s siblings and their spouses, two daughters-in-law, Jean Chapman Stewart and Toshiko Kasai Stewart, as well as all her favourite Langstaff cousins, and many of her friends.
She is survived by her children Gordon (Bernadette) Stewart of Cochrane Alberta, Don (Bev) Stewart of Regina, Brian Stewart of Saskatoon and Ruth (Wes) Wellborn of Saskatoon, 7 grandchildren whom she loved dearly and was extremely proud of, and 6 beautiful great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many special and loving nieces and nephews.
Frances was a blessing to everyone who knew her, and we were truly blessed to have her as our mother.
We are grateful for the loving care provided to Mom at Warm N Cozy care home, and for the support and kindness the staff always showed our family.
A celebration of Frances’ long and happy life will be held in May 2022, when we will once again be free to gather.
